Rashad Named 2024 Kentucky High School Teacher of the Year

Kumar Rashad brought more than 18 years of experience as a public high school math educator to his work in the community. He taught mathematics as well as a course titled Developing Black Historical Conscience at Breckinridge Metropolitan High School, an alternative high school serving nontraditional students. He earned a bachelor’s degree in pure mathematics from Kentucky State University and later completed a master’s degree in secondary mathematics education at the University of Louisville.

Beyond the classroom, Rashad served on his school district’s Advisory Council for Racial Equity, a committee focused on reviewing district policies through a racial justice lens. He also acted as an advisor to the Men of Quality Youth Mentoring Program, supporting and mentoring at-risk youth.
