As the school year moved into its second month, Councilmembers Kumar Rashad (D-3) and Phillip Baker (D-6) announced and hosted an Education Fall Block Party on Saturday, September 9, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at South Central Park (2400 Colorado Avenue).
The free, family-friendly event was open to the public and featured food trucks, music, games, and activities for all ages, giving neighbors an opportunity to connect and celebrate the community together.
“Coming together for a positive reason is always a good thing,” said Councilmember Rashad. “It’s important to love thy neighbor and protect and serve the community that serves us. The block party celebrated our youth, connected families with local social services, and brought the community together around food and fellowship.”
Councilmember Baker also reflected on the importance of shared community experiences. “I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of families coming together—where laughter fills the streets and bonds are strengthened,” he said. “Events like this reminded us that the heart of a strong community is built through the connections we nurture right outside our front doors.”
The event also provided opportunities for local vendors and community partners to engage with residents. Vendor participation was coordinated through the District 3 office.
